Before the year 2000, the "Disney Princesses" weren't a franchise. Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle lived in their own separate worlds and never crossed paths. That all changed when an executive named Andy Mooney attended a Disney on Ice show and saw thousands of young fans creating their own "shared universe" by dressing up as their favorite characters.
In this video, we explore the surprising history of how the Ice Capades and Disney on Ice paved the way for the multi-billion dollar Disney Princess brand. We’ll look at:
The 1950s "Walt’s Toy Shop" Ice Capades segment that started it all....and gave us characters in the parks!
Why Roy E. Disney originally hated the idea of the Princesses being together.
How this all eventually led to the iconic Princess scene in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
